As 2016 has continued forward, the year has continued to take away music legend after music legend. After losing David Bowie and Phife Dawg earlier in the year, the world was stunned again by the losses of Prince, Merle Haggard, George Martin, Bernie Worrell, and the list goes on.

While surpassing Bowie’s final masterpiece has proven a near impossible task, debut albums by Anna Meredith, Throws, and Moken have all been incredible reminders that music will never run out of new ways to mesmerize us.

In Santa Fe, the summer concert season is now upon us. AMP Concerts has already begun their series in the Railyard, which will undoubtedly peak with The Jayhawks on July 29th. FantaSe Fest showcased many of the area’s best bands. Santa Fe Bandstand launches tonight, bringing free concerts to the Plaza nearly every night for the next two months. Explosions in the Sky will play a huge concert in Meow Wolf’s parking lot on August 25th. And there’s plenty more to be excited about with AHA Festival in September, and loads of other good shows coming up in the area (including Neko Case at the Santa Fe Opera and Of Montreal at Meow Wolf).

Trying to keep up with new releases is a Sisyphean task. With each week comes a new avalanche of releases to get lost within. I’ve mostly lost track of just how many albums I’ve heard this year, but it’s somewhere between 300-400. Many have left little impression, but others have stuck with me greatly.  Below is a list of my 75 favorite releases through the first half of 2016.
