Damaged Bug
Cold Hot Plumbs

FOR FANS OF

Thee Oh Sees, Silver Apples

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

You’re probably the type of person that goes around licking the backs of toads for potential psychotropic effects. As John Dwyer continues to impress with his main project Thee Oh Sees, including this year’s Mutilator Defeated at Last, he’s recently branched out with solo side project Damaged Bug. Replacing the fuzzed out high energy guitars of Thee Oh Sees with amorphous synths, Damaged Bug has its own identity. His second record under this identity, Cold Hot Plumbs is more relaxed than anything by Coachwhips or Thee Oh Sees. Over the course of the record, there’s a steady sense of slipping deeper within the realm of unconsciousness as bubbling synths expand and absorb the delightfully melodic tunes. As much as I enjoy Thee Oh Sees, Cold Hot Plumbs is likely my favorite thing Dwyer has done in years. It’s a fresh, playful combination of Eno’s incredible early work and the mindbending Silver Apples with lots of Dwyer’s own demented charismatic charm.
